I’ve just returned from an epic night in Glasgow with SH. As I sit on the sofa waiting for the curry to arrive I thought I’d share!
Have I mentioned my new music crush, Alabama Shakes? This band are something else! There is nothing on their album that they can’t produce (and even strengthen upon) live. The gig is mind-blowing, and you leave just wishing you could be best friends with the Southern songstress, Brittany Howard. Rock n Roll, Southern rock, Bluesey country tunes all the way!
Right, that out the way, on to other stuff.
Cafe Gandolfi is everything that is right in a family run, Scottish restaurant. Rustic, cosy interiors and wholesome family favourites on the menu (like mac and cheese and fish finger sandwiches! alongside the more grown up crab linguine and smoked mackerel pate). This place is GOOD. Establish yourself for a while and chat away to the friendly owners and you can see why this place has been here as long as it has, and why it’s always packed out. P.S white chocolate and stem ginger cheesecake was a win, but unfortunately only on today’s specials.
Yesterday we started out with a traditional visit to the Republic Bier Halle. Pizzas and beer. That is what this place does and no one beats them. 2-4-1 pizzas every day make this a great deal. The pizzas are sooooo thin and crispy, with the freshest toppings. I defy anyone to tell me that pizza doesn’t go down better with a pint of cold beer (or wine in my case…). Trendy alert though – these guys are cool.
Maggie Mays provided the end of evening entertainment last night (until 3am, I can’t remember the last time I lasted until 3am!). Skittle bombs and Strongbow flowed freely while the jukebox pumped out some ruddy bloody awesome music! Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Bon Jovi (:)), Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Alabama Shakes (have I mentioned them?). A good 4 hours well spent and merely a 20m crawl around the corner to our hotel.
Glasgow, you did good!
