At this very moment I am taking part in a new project (or fad, if you like). The IF diet, or Intermittent Fasting.
On 2 days of the week, you only consume 500 calories (600 for men) between the hours of 2pm and 2pm.
Less about weight loss, and more about giving your body much needed time to take a break and get a chance to rebuild and repair.
What I think
500 calories is not very much at all. That’s about 1 boiled egg, an oatcake, half a banana, a small salad with dressing, 1 bacon rasher… Granted, before my fast started at 2pm I did inhale half a margarita pizza and a bowl of chips and mayo.
This isn’t a new concept to me. My Mum always told me your body benefits from having a little break every now and then, no prolonged fasting, but a day where you eat less.
I think the benefits are quite extensive:
- A break for your body to repair
- Wider health benefits from reduced glucose and cholesterol levels
- Losing unwanted excess body fat
- Saving money on food you would have scarfed over 2 days!
- Environmental benefits from reducing your food footprint
It’s 10:30am, only 3.5 hours to go! Day 1, so not much to report, I’ll keep you posted though!
NB I AM NO DOCTOR, SO DON’T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! More information can be found in books like this.
