With the days getting ever longer, the weather getting colder and my time being spent increasingly inside, I can feel the annual doom and gloom descend. I don’t know whether it is Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D), or just the winter blues, but along with the doom comes the heavy weight of anxiety. Nervous energy and the inability to quieten thoughts is exhausting. Time to take action!
The solution? Swimming.
Dalry swim centre is just around the corner from my house. A beautiful converted baths, with a glass roof and railed balcony around the edge.
I swam and swam and swam until I could swim no more, and my skin was wrinkled up like a prune. With an achy, tired body, there is no room for anxiety. The body is quietened, and the thoughts are stilled. It’s very meditative, repeating the strokes, and being surrounding by the warm, cocooning water. The natural light in the building means I’m not being starved of the little daylight left either.
Try it!
